Construction of start up pit for Ginkgo mineral sands operations

30 metres of overburden was required to be shifted with over 2,000,000 bcm excavated for the start up pit. A large storage was required to hold water for future dredge operations with 310,000 bcm of compacted embankment fill placed to form the water storage facility. The production rates required were such that MCG implemented a 24 hour roster to ensure maximum production. Both truck and scraper fleets were utilised to increase production outputs for each shift with MCG mobilising a 120 tonne excavator for the project.
